Raceway Construction Materials

Superior Raceways™ are constructed of a fish grade, semi-rigid, high density polyethylene (hdpe) plastic. The material is about one-eighth of an inch thick and treated to resist u.v. radiation. In five years of extensive, practical use and testing, the raceways have been exposed to muskrats, beavers, otters, snapping turtles, and a host of macro and micro organisms. The raceways have been exposed to five years of Wisconsin winters, used both normally and shut down, i.e. turned off so that they would freeze solid in three foot thick ice.

The results? Absolutely zero damage! No cracking, chewing, or nibble marks. When floating raceways are used in tidal or flood prone regions, the raceways should simply rise or fall with changing water levels.

The white bottoms and black sides have remained easy to clean and disinfect if necessary. The white bottoms greatly enhance observation of fish behavior, especially in stained or colored waters. The dark sides assist small fry in identifying and efficiently collecting feed.

Bird netting prevents predation by birds, shade cloth reduces stress (in some species), and an electric wire fence deters other visitors.
